DiverseArts is happy to announce the opening of Spirit Colours.  The exhibition features the original batiks, paintings and limited-edition and small prints by Ghanaian artist, Yao "Selasi" Deh at the New East Art Gallery opening Saturday, April 18th through May 16th.

The exhibition features the centuries-old tradition of batik fabric-dying techniques by Yao "Selasi" Deh, a master batik artisan, craftsman, drummer and farmer from the Upper Volta Region of Ghana, West Afrika. Spirit Colours includes batiks from large tapestries, small panels and garments to textured paintings and signed prints. Deh's works are a cultural/spiritual confluence of complex, rich, multi-layered colours, images and folklore infused with his ancient cultural and historical traditions, influences of the natural and spiritual elements of Ghana; as well as his unceasing desire to celebrate the life, love, culture, power and mysteries of West Afrika and life as they manifest through his mastery of colour and expression of spirit.

An artist reception and gallery talk on Saturday April 25th from 7 pm to 10 pm.
