Join us Friday, September 23rd for the return of East End Fourth Fridays!, a monthly celebration of music, culture and community in the heart of the East Austin Cultural Heritage District. Be sure to bring the kids, because this month’s event features music from a host of young musicians whose talent belies their age and makes their sound a treat for the entire family!

The Executive Steel Band headlines the evening, bringing their unique Caribbean-style steel pan percussion and smooth vocals to the East End, offering original compositions and modern rhythmic sounds born in Trinidad & Tobago and honed by over twenty years of performing.

Originally from Philadelphia, Charlie Belle is an under-eighteen indie-pop band based in Austin that has been playing around town since they arrived several years ago. Composed of brother and sister duo Jendayi (guitar and lead vocals) and Gyasi (back up vocals and drums), they added bass player Michelle after deciding they wanted a fuller sound. Jendayi credits Girls Rock Camps in both Philadelphia and Austin with inspiring her to be a songwriter and performer. A regular fixture at SXSW, Charlie Belle also played at Antone's, Jovita's, The Cactus Cafe, Ditch the Fest Fest, and The Whip-In.

Also performing is the Ortega Elementary Superstar Choir, a talented group of 45 2nd- through 5th-graders who specialize in African-American spirituals, sharing the history of slavery-era “code songs” and freedom songs from the Civil Rights era. The choir’s harmonies are accompanied by foot-stomping and hand-clapping, as well as bass, snare and floor-tom drums and choir director on baritone guitar. The Superstar Choir guarantee that their historically-rich music will “make you want to move!”

In addition to this stellar lineup, we feature FREE, ICE COLD Live Oak Beer (while supplies last),  as well we have available for purchase soft drinks and tasty organic treats from our partner, Sun Farm Kitchens Co-op! There will be plenty for vegans and non-vegans alike, including lamb kabobs, hamburgers, avocado milkshakes, and more.

Bring your family and friends, your blankets and lawn chairs, and your favorite sixpack over to Kenny Dorham’s Backyard for a night of multicultural programming, food and community!
