Join us on this Thursday at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard for a night of neo-soul, rock and blues beneath the moonlight at Party at the Moontower! This music series takes place beneath the glow of one of Austin’s remaining moon towers. Moon towers were used in late-1800s Europe and parts of America to illuminate a radius of several blocks at once, and Austin is the only city in the world to still operate these structures. DiverseArts Culture Works teams up with Austin Collective to offer a superlative night of music in view of this historical artifact.
The fun begins at 8 pm with The Nouns, an Austin trio whose high-energy sound has been compared with the raw blues of the White Stripes, with a distinctly California-style surf-rock edge.
Following them at 9 pm is James Robinson, a musician who blends traditional soul and jazz sounds with electronica and lo-fi pop to create an eclectic interpretation of R&B. With influences ranging from 1940s bebop to 1970s punk, Robinson creates a sound that blends these styles together to produce music that defies genre classification.
Headlining the night is Houston’s Another Run, a band whose dynamic sound combines high-energy modern rock with classic riffs. Formed in 2000, Another Run has spent the last decade building a fanbase in Austin, Houston and San Antonio. After a successful SXSW performance, a video release and a new album in pre-production, the band has returned to bring their homegrown rock n’ roll sound to the East End!
Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and the beer of your choice over to Kenny Dorham’s Backyard, where we also have available delicious organic treats and refreshments from our partners at Sun Farm Kitchens Co-op!
