Season Sponsor Katz's Deli

September 2002 at venues throughout Austin

Begun in 1989 as the Clarksville Jazz and Arts Festival, the 2003 festival continues DiverseArts' tradition of producing one of Austin's oldest jazz music events. Each year, we carry out our mission to present multidisciplinary, family-oriented programs that stress artistic quality, education, and cultural appreciation.

Well-planned children's activities, art and crafts exhibition/sales and related cultural programs round out the Festival's week of events.

Scheduled this season to coincide with the beginning of the school year and just prior to the new Austin City Limits Festival, this year's festival will focus on educating local audiences on the vibrancy found in Austin's local jazz community, while drawing on internationally recognized jazz standard-bearers and the new generation of emerging jazz recording artist from around the country.

The 2002 edition of the Festival paid tribute to the range of guitar styles found in the jazz tradition and featured Leni Stern, Mimi Fox, Cornell Dupree, and hometown favorite W.C. Clark as headliners. Local programming featured the collaboration of local nonprofit jazz and arts presenters Including Epistrophy Arts, Women in Jazz, the Creative Opportunity Orchestra, and Pro-Arts Collective. With the vision of bringing Austin's jazz community together for mutual benefit, DiverseArts remains dedicated to notion of continued collaboration with these organizations in support our challenge of assuring a greater future for Austin's jazz community-both audiences and artists.
