Chicano Classic: Paintings by Caroline Martinez

    An Austin native, Caroline became inspired to paintafter her daughters remarkable recovery after being diagnosed with cancer in 2000. Bold and striking color combinations characterize her impassioned depictions of barrio characters with Latin American religious iconography. She describes her work as "symbolic mexican street art" and emphasizes the religious symbolism inher work.

    Caroline works out of her gallery Barrio Mexican Religious Art Studio in East Austin. Her art is influenced by family and friends and by her own personal religious experiences including the 'miracle' of her daughters recovery. She says "I paint from my heart, my eyes, and my feelings of struggle- and with passion."
